World Cup: Black Stars group opponents release final squads

All three of Ghana Black Stars group opponents, Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea have released their final squad for the upcoming FIFA World slated for Qatar.



Portugal’s squad features, Manchester trio, Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, and Diego Dalot, as well as Joao Felix, Rafael Leao, Pepe, Bernando Silva, Joao Mario, Joao Cancelo, and other squad members.

The South American side, Uruguay, led by coach Diego Alonso named L. Suarez, E. Cavani, F. Valverde, S. Coates, R. Araujo, M. Vecino, and M. Lopez.

Paulo Bento’s side has some major injury concerns with Tottenham Hotspur’s Son Heung-min fitness still in limbo, it goes without saying that, the side has some appreciable volume of quality, Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, Mallorca’s Lee Kang-in, Kim Young-Gwon (Ulsan Hyundai), Kwon Kyung-won (Gamba Osaka), Kim Tae-hwan (Ulsan Hyundai), Jung Woo-young (Al-Sadd), Lee Jae-sung (Mainz), Hwang Hee-chan (Wolves), Jeong Woo-yeong (Freiburg), Hwang Ui-jo (Olympiacos). 


 

Meanwhile, Ghana’s Coach Addo has been carefully consulting with his technical team members (Chris Houghton, George Boateng, and Didi Dramani) and other influential figures on the final list for the tournament.  

The German-based scout, who doubles as coach of the senior national team, BlackStars initially listed a 55-man squad which will be ultimately whittled down to a 26-man squad. 

This week some players like Joseph Painstil, Majeed Ashimeru, Jeffery Schlupp, and Afena Gyan who made the 55-man preliminary list have been notified of their exclusion from the final list which will be out by Monday,14, November 2022.



Once the final squad is released, the makeup of the team will heavily feature most of the players that were engaged in the doubleheader against Nigeria, Captain Andre Ayew, Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Baba Rahman, Daniel Amartey, Alex Djiku, Mohammed Kudus and Jojo Wollacott.

The Ghanaians have been pitted against, Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea and will look to secure one of two spots available for the round of 16 of the competition. 

Participating African countries such as Morocco, Senegal, and Cameroon have released their final list for the World Cup.
