President John Dramani Mahama has dissolved the Governing Board of Ghana’s National Sports Authority (NSA) with immediate effect, the Presidency announced on Wednesday, 2 September 2026.
The NSA board, chaired by Dr Fred Awaah and inaugurated in December 2025 under the Sports Act, 2016 (Act 934) for the 2025–2029 term, included representatives from the NSA, National Sports College, relevant ministries, the Ghana Olympic Committee, National Paralympic Committee, and other sports bodies. Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah also served on the board.
The decision comes as Ghana prepares for key sporting commitments, including infrastructure work and events linked to hosting the 2027 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations.
The NSA remains central to sports facility development and organising major competitions across the country.
