GHALCA Chairman Kudjoe Fianoo: Gambia Defeat Was Opportunity for Kurt Okraku to Resign has stated that the Black Stars’ painful 4-2 home defeat to The Gambia presented Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku with a clear opportunity to resign.

Speaking on Sporty FM’s Sporty Drive, Fianoo argued that the humiliating result on 29 September 2026 — in which Ghana surrendered a 2-0 lead at the Accra Sports Stadium — should have prompted the GFA boss to step aside. The loss left the Black Stars bottom of Group C in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers with zero points after successive defeats, following an earlier 2-0 reverse to Côte d’Ivoire.

The Gambia result sparked widespread frustration among fans, with some confronting Okraku at the stadium and several football stakeholders, media personalities and former officials renewing calls for his resignation or the dissolution of the GFA.

Fianoo’s comments add to the growing pressure on Okraku, who has led the association since 2019. The GHALCA chairman has previously criticised the GFA leadership and opposed any third-term ambitions for the president.

As Ghana seeks to salvage its qualifying campaign, the debate over the future of the GFA leadership continues to dominate discussions in Ghanaian football.
