U-23 AFCON Qualifiers: Ghana beat Togo 5-1

Ghana outclassed Togo in a 5-1 victory in the first leg of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Tuesday in Kumasi.

The first goal was scored in the 18th minute by Owusu who brilliantly put the back of the net after dribbling past two Togolese defenders.

Ghana had a chance to double their lead after Joel Fameyeh was brought down inside the Togo penalty area by Messan Toudji, but Fameyeh couldn’t punish Togo as his penalty kick was saved by Togolese goalie Abdoul-Moubarak Aigba.

Thibault Klidje scored for Togo five minutes later after connecting with Yenoussi Guillaume’s free kick.

Ghana improved very well in the second half. Osman Bukari scored in the opening minutes of the second half.

Owusu scored in the 69th minute and completed his hat trick a minute later.

Yakubu Nassam Ibrahim came in as a substitute and was lucky to find the net.

The result gives Black Meteors a huge advantage ahead of the second leg in Lome on Saturday.

Winner of this tie will face Gabon in the next round of the qualifiers for the next year’s competition in Egypt.
