Kurt Okraku to go unopposed as Elections Committee reveal list of candidates for 2023 GFA Elections.

Kurt Okraku, the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), will run unopposed in the upcoming GFA Elections, scheduled later this year.

Back in 2019, Okraku, the former MTN FA Cup chairman, secured victory in a highly competitive election to assume his current position. His term is set to conclude in October, but he has submitted his candidacy for a second term.

Initially, he was expected to face off against George Afriyie, the former vice president of the association. However, the Elections Committee released the results of Afriyie’s vetting, indicating that he had been disqualified due to not meeting specific requirements, as detailed in an official statement.

Afriyie pursued an appeal to overturn this decision and become eligible to compete against Kurt Okraku in the elections, initially slated for September 27. However, the Appeals Committee has rejected his appeal, leaving Kurt Okraku as the sole candidate available and qualified to contend for another term.

In confirmation of the Appeals Committee’s ruling, the Elections Committee has announced the complete list of candidates eligible to participate in the 2023 GFA Elections, with Kurt Okraku being the sole candidate in the presidential race.
