Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey nears Ghana switch

Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey is said to have touched down in the country with his representatives and some close family in a bid to finalize his switch to play for Ghana.

The Kurt Okraku-led administration over the last few years toured Europe and beyond in a bid to get footballers of Ghanaian descent to reconsider playing for the motherland, Ghana of which the young lad was part of the pool targeted for the nationality switch.

Following Ghana’s qualification to Qatar 2022, is said to be made the decision for Lamptey and his family easier as former players were also in talks with the family from time to time to get him to make a finite decision on playing for the country.

Lamptey and his father are currently in Ghana, scheduled to meet the handlers of the BlackStars team headed by Black Stars coach Otto supported by George Boateng, Chris Hughton and others.

The right-back is expected to watch the Black Stars’ 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Madagascar at the Cape Coast Stadium on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

The enterprising full-back had an injury-ravaged season with Brighton, making 16 appearances for them in the just ended English Premier League.
