GHPL WK5 Review: Aduana, Kotoko, Chelsea win big as Hearts humble Liberty.

This weekend’s ongoing premier league matches took place as arranged at the various league centres as Berekum Chelsea’s niche as giant-killers continued with Ashgold falling prey to them, Kotoko, Aduana winning big at home.

GHPL WK5: Berekum Chelsea stun Ashgold in Obuasi

Obuasi Ley Clay Stadium was the centre of attraction between the then table-toppers Ashanti Gold and Berekum Chelsea. These two sides came into this match with a rich vein of form, having won three matches and drawing one, it was all to play for to see who will come out as eventual winners, as such the match didn’t disappoint as it gave fans lots to be happy about.

After 90 minutes of soccer action, it was a Kofi Owusu goal giving the Berekum side that all-important win against Ashgold, who have lost their first match as a result of this fixture.

Aduana Stars were back to winning when they put Accra based Legon Cities to the sword at the Nana Agyemang Badu Park. At the end of the clash, it was the home side who walked away with all three points in the bag leaving Legon Cities with nothing to feed on.

Top maxman Yahaya Mohammed netted his sixth goal in five matches for the Ogya boys, Legon Cities will travel back to the nation’s capital for their next encounter against Bechem United.

Elmina Sharks couldn’t build on their first victory away to Inter Allies at the Tema Park, as they were held to a one-one draw with Accra Great Olympics. A Bernard Boateng penalty was canceled by a thunderbolt from Ibrahim Sulley at the Ndoum Park.

Dreams FC played host to Medeama SC at the Dawu Stadium. The home faithful lost their perfect run to Berekum Chelsea by a solitary goal. Abdulla Ibrahim gave the home side an early lead which they held on solidly to end Medeama’s dream start to the league.

Inter Allies lost their last home match to Elmina Sharks and needed an instant response to turn their fortunes around against WAFA at the Tema Park, the home side always had the supremacy belt in their favor anytime they played WAFA, this time both sides had to share the spoils in a one-one draw. A Prosper Narh’s own goal gave WAFA the lead before captain Victorien Adebayor equalized for his side.

Porcupine Warriors Kumasi Asante Kotoko finally got all three points against poor Ebusua Dwarfs at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium behind closed doors. After winning two and losing two, Maxwell Konadu’s men didn’t disappoint as Matthew Anim Cudjoe and Richard Arthur’s goals handed the Reds a home victory.

When teams are not having the best of seasons, it’s often worrisome, that seems the plight of Karela United, who are still pitching pieces together to get their season underway. Karela got back to winning ways feeding graciously on a struggling King Faisal side at the Akoon Community Park through a Kwame Boateng goal.

The Never Say Die attitude came to bare as Hearts of Oak came out unscathed, picking all three points away to Liberty at the Dansoman Carl Reindorff Park. Michael Sefah got the early goal before late goals from Bernard Arthur and Kofi Kodji turned the tides in favor of the Phobia boys.

Bechem United will play host to Eleven Wonders at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park tomorrow(Monday) at kick-off time at 3:00 pm.
