Ghanaian champions Ampem Darkoa Ladies have begun their 2026 WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers campaign on a winning note after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over defending champions ASEC Mimosas in Burkina Faso.
The Nana Mma produced a disciplined performance to claim all three points in their Group B opener, with goalkeeper Rose Baah emerging as the hero after a crucial penalty save early in the game earned her the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
ASEC Mimosas had the opportunity to take the lead in the sixth minute after being awarded a penalty, but Rose Baah stood tall to deny the Ivorian side and keep the game level.
Ampem Darkoa capitalised on the momentum and broke the deadlock in the 29th minute through Gloria Adomako, who headed home the only goal of the match to give the Ghanaian champions a valuable advantage.
The Ghanaian side managed the game effectively in the second half, holding onto their lead to secure a memorable opening victory against last season’s champions.
The win places Ampem Darkoa in a strong position as they continue their quest to secure qualification for the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Ampem Darkoa Ladies qualified for the WAFU B Women’s Champions League Qualifiers after winning the 2025/26 Ghana Women’s Premier League, earning the right to represent Ghana at the regional competition.
The Techiman-based side already has continental pedigree, having won the 2023 WAFU B Women’s Champions League title and previously represented Ghana at the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Ampem Darkoa are drawn in Group B alongside ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire, Edo Queens of Nigeria and AS Garde Nationale of Niger.
Their next challenge will be against AS Garde Nationale of Niger on Thursday, August 27, as the Nana Mma continue their push to finish among the top two teams in the group and advance to the next stage of the competition. They will also face Edo Queens on Sunday August 30.
