GFA reveals list of nominees for upcoming elections



The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a significant stride in preparation for its upcoming Elective Congress by publicly revealing the names of individuals who have submitted their nomination forms for various key roles within the organization.

One of the most closely observed positions is that of GFA President, where a familiar competition is set to occur.

The current officeholder, Kurt Okraku, is in competition with former GFA Vice President George Afriyie. Their previous contest during the 2019 election adds an element of excitement to this year’s leadership battle.

In the sphere of women’s football, Gifty Oware-Mensah is in contention for a spot on the Executive Council.

If she successfully passes the vetting process, she will secure her position uncontested, underscoring her prominence within the women’s football community.

The Division One category, which includes three openings, has attracted a combination of recognizable and new names. Noteworthy, Mark Addo and Samuel Anim Addo, both current Council members, are among the candidates.

They are joined by Eugene Nii Amon Noel, Gideon Fosu, and Alexander Ababio, all competing for the opportunity to contribute to Division One football.

The Premier League Executive Council race stands out due to its diversity and notable figures. The roster of competitors features Kingsley Osei Bonsu, Nana Oduro Sarfo representing Berekum Chelsea, Frederick Acheampong, Dr. Anthony Aubynn representing Ghanaian champions Medeama, Randy Abbey who has ascended from Division One with Heart of Lions, Onyina Asenso, the renowned former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah associated with Asante Kotoko, Amadu Moro Brimah (popularly known as Alhaji Akanbi) linked with Hearts of Oak, and Elloeny Amande, a former sports journalist. Raphael Tawiah Gyambrah concludes the list of contenders, presenting a variety of backgrounds and affiliations.

As the GFA releases the names of the candidates, the excitement surrounding the Elective Congress heightens. With the September 27 event approaching, football enthusiasts and stakeholders eagerly anticipate the results of these elections, which will undoubtedly shape the future course of football administration in Ghana.
