Ghana’s Black Maidens have booked their place in the next round of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers with an emphatic 8-0 aggregate victory over Togo, setting up a clash with Liberia.
After securing a solid 2-0 away win in the first leg at the Stade de Kégué in Lomé, Ghana returned home to deliver a commanding performance, thrashing Togo 6-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The second leg saw the Black Maidens assert their dominance from the onset. Juliana Gyekyewaa opened the scoring in the 7th minute, setting the tone for an attacking display. Sekinatu Amadu added the second in the 20th minute, while Zeinab Shani netted a brilliant brace in the 14th and 43rd minutes to give Ghana a comfortable lead before halftime.
Priscilla Mensah, who scored twice in the first leg, continued her fine form by adding another in the 77th minute, before Seidatu Wahab sealed the victory with a stoppage-time strike.
In goal, Belinda Maku Aklie once again delivered a composed performance, keeping her second consecutive clean sheet of the tie and further underlining her growing importance to the team.
The comprehensive victory highlights Ghana’s strength and depth as they progress confidently to the next stage of the qualifiers.
Ghana will now face Liberia in the second round, with the first leg scheduled between May 22 and 24, and the return leg set for May 29 to 31.
Liberia advanced to this stage without kicking a ball, progressing via a walkover after their opponents, Libya, withdrew from the competition. The upcoming fixture will present a new challenge for the Black Maidens as they continue their quest for qualification.
