    Asamoah Gyan officially unveiled as GFA Ambassador for National Teams and Colts Football

    Former Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan was officially unveiled as Ambassador for Ghana’s national teams and Colts football by the Ghana Football Association during a special ceremony held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at the Pelican Hotel in Accra.

    The colourful event brought together key personalities within Ghana football, including GFA President Kurt Okraku and members of the association’s executive council, former Black Stars players, coaches, musicians, corporate stakeholders and members of the media.

    Representing the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah, Chief Director of the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, congratulated Gyan on his new role and praised his immense contribution to Ghana football over the years.

    Several former teammates and football legends were present to celebrate the country’s all-time leading scorer, including Stephen Appiah, Anthony Baffoe, Prince Tagoe, Jerry Akaminko and Gyan’s brother Baffour Gyan. Popular Ghanaian music duo DopeNation and highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena were also among personalities who graced the occasion.

    During his address, Gyan expressed gratitude to the GFA, his former teammates, coaches, family and supporters for standing by him throughout his football journey. He also presented branded Black Stars jerseys to selected dignitaries and personalities at the event as a gesture of appreciation.

    Kurt Okraku, in his remarks, celebrated Gyan’s legacy and described him as a symbol of dedication, patriotism and excellence whose influence continues to inspire generations of Ghanaian footballers and fans.

    The ambassadorial role is expected to see Gyan lead promotional activities, fan engagement campaigns and initiatives aimed at strengthening support for Ghana’s national teams ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
