Algeria made a bright start to their opening group game in the WAFCON at the 2026 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
A goal in each half by Marine Dafeur and Mélissa Bethiwas enough for the North Africans to beat their West African opponents.
With three minutes to go before half-time, Marine Dafeur converted from the penalty spot to give Algeria the lead.

The second half resumed with Senegal creating and controlling large portions of the game but failing to get the needed clinical edge to level matters.
Newly signed Washington Spirit forward Mélissa Bethi sealed the win late in the match, finishing off a sharp counter-attack set up by Lina Boussaha.

Senegal will have to shrug it off against Kenya after both sides lost their opening matches, while Algeria will go head-to-head against Morocco
