The University for Development Studies (UDS) of Ghana has etched its name into continental history, defeating Julius Nyerere University 2–1 in the final of the 12th All Africa University Games to retain their title and become the first university football team in Africa to win consecutive championships.
The Ghanaian side entered the tournament in Cairo as defending champions after their triumph at the 2024 FASU football championship in Lagos, Nigeria. They delivered a dominant campaign, highlighted by strong attacking displays, including a standout performance from Mohammed Ezideen, who scored a hat-trick earlier in the competition and netted the decisive second goal in the tightly contested final.
UDS progressed impressively through the knockout stages before sealing the historic victory on Wednesday, September 16. The win not only confirmed their status as Africa’s top university football team but also marked a landmark achievement that no other African institution had previously accomplished.
