GPL Week 2 Review: Dreams, Olympics, Karela pick up wins as Berekum and Kotoko share the spoils

The Ghana Premier League matchday two got off to an exciting start with goals flying from all cylinders, unlike match day one that produced six stalemates, this weekend saw Great Olympics, Bechem United, Dreams FC, Eleven Wonders seal impressive victories as Berekum Chelsea, Kotoko share spoils in week two of the ongoing Ghana Premier League.

Eleven Wonders made full use of their home advantage when they played host to Ebusua Dwarfs at the Ohene Ameyaw Park.

An early penalty saw captain, Mohammed Tetteh Nortey shoot his side into the lead before Prince Okraku add a second to post a 2-0 victory over the Cape Coast-based clubs.

Great Olympics produced a sumptuous match-winning performance against Legon Cities thumping them by 3-0 to record their first win of the 2020-21 Ghana Premier season at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday night.

Captain of the side, Gladson Awako led by example when he expertly converted from a free kick in the 44th minute before Maxwell Acquaye and Samuel Abbey capped off a sweet victory against Legon Cities.

The Nana Fosu Gyeabour park saw Bechem United outwit WAFA SC through a Hafiz Konkoni goal in the first half of the match. The second half saw the Academy boy push relentlessly for an equalizer but all their efforts were thwarted by heroic goalkeeping and resolute defensive efforts from the home to record their first victory of the season pushing them up to second momentarily awaiting other results.

This week’s top liner was at the Golden City Park, where Berekum Chelsea and Kotoko were looking to record their first victory of the season. In the end, new club signing, Sulley Muniru’s first-half goal almost secured a victory for the Kumasi “Galacticos” but for a last gasp free-kick from the old guard, Emmanuel Clottey secured a point for the home side.

Elsewhere, new summer signing, Joseph Esso scored his first goal for his new club in a tightly contested clash against Medeama SC at the Dawu Park, Godsway Asamoah poked in consolation before a last-minute penalty from Issah Ibrahim saw the home side walk away with all three points. Both clubs were on the lookout for their first three points of the season following their opening day draw in the 2020-21 Ghana Premier League season. Samuel Boadu and his charges highly tipped to win the league would have to correct their mistakes if they are to win the league this season after several year’s that it has eluded them.

In other duels ,Yaw Acheampong side, Elmina Sharks  engage the services of Liberty Professionals at the Ndoum Sports Stadium this weekend.A Benjamin Tweneboah’s goal in the first half looked as though the home side would bag all three points but for a tactical change from David Ocloo, who brought on Kwaku Kakari, who pounced on some lucklustre defending to slot past the on rushing goalkeeper. Both clubs had to shared the spoils in the end.

After impressing away at the Obuasi Ley Clay Stadium against AshGold, Ainyase based Karela United continued that feat when they play host to Inter Allies at home, when a Diawusie Taylor penalty was all they needed to set the tone for their campaign this season. Inter Allies would be disappointed not to have taken the chances they created during the game.

Finally, King Faisal babies gave off their all when they clashed with Aduana Stars at the Ohene Ameyaw Park.
