GoldFields set to announce sponsorship support for Medeama

GoldFields set to announce sponsorship support for Medeama

The GoldFields Foundation, representing the mining company, is set to unveil a financial package for the Mauve and Yellow at the newly constructed TNA Stadium.

Although specifics regarding the financial aid remain limited, reliable sources suggest that the mining giant is set to allocate $100,000 to the champions for a year.

This recent show of support stands in stark contrast to a previous decision by the company not to back the club in their African campaign.

Member of Parliament for Tarkwa-Nsuaem, George Mireku Duker, urged the company to reconsider their stance, emphasizing that it is their duty to support Medeama.

Duker stated, “Goldfields Ghana must as soon as possible rescind their decision of not sponsoring Medeama again. It’s their responsibility to support Medeama, and as the MP, I want them to rescind the letter they wrote to the club. We will talk to their leadership in South Africa to see the need to sponsor Medeama.”

The MP’s intervention underscores the significance of Medeama’s accomplishments and their representation of the Tarkwa community in the CAF Champions League. The financial backing from sponsors plays a crucial role in the club’s preparations and performance in the competition.

GoldFields is set to officially announce the financial assistance to the team following their historic achievement of reaching the group stage of the CAF Champions League. The newly constructed TNA Stadium is slated to be finalized and handed over to the Assembly on March 11, 2024.

While Medeama had initially anticipated using the facility as their home ground for the group phase of Africa’s premier inter-club competition, this plan has been deferred after authorities revealed that the structure will be completed in March 2024.

GoldFields’ support will join the increasing support from top mining companies for the two-time Ghana FA Cup champions.

AngloGold has contributed $40,000 to support Medeama, and Nguvu Mining has invested $300,000 to become shirt sponsors for the Ghanaian powerhouse.

Reigning champions, Al Ahly SC, will lead Group D, which includes Algeria’s CR Belouizdad for an exciting North-African derby, Tanzania’s Young Africans, who finished second in the CAF Confederation Cup, and Ghana’s Medeama, who are poised to cause potential upsets in the group.
