Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has finally opened up about his involvement with the black stars in the upcoming FIFA World Cup slated for Qatar.

In the course of the year, viral videos of the former Ghana Legend surfaced on the internet of him vigorously training prompting widespread calls for his inclusion into the BlackStars.

But in a recent interview with GHOne, the record goalscorer of the senior national team professed with all honesty that his physical conditions would not compel him to play actively as he would have wished.

“The World Cup is every footballer’s dream. If I’m fit to play active football and I’m invited to play for the national team, why not. It’s not like 15 years ago when I was young and competitive and could argue to be in the starting line-up.

“This is a different thing together. Right now people want you to go in and show your experience. The thing is you just have to be fit and be ready for competitive football. If I’m fit and invited into the national team, why not? Every player will embrace such an opportunity. This is the case where I’m not ready now. If I’m not ready but the FA and staff feel they need me now, I will be available. That one is up to them”, he ended.

Gyan has played in three separate World Cups, 2006,2010, and 2014 for the country scoring six goals, making him the most successful African player in the global tournament.

The former footballer has however availed himself to the technical team for use in any capacity leading up to the World Cup.

Ghana is housed in a group that contains Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea for Qatar 2022.
