Gambia head coach Jonathan McKinstry said he “exploited ” the internal friction within the Ghana’s set-up at half time which saw squad The Scorpions’ beat Black Stars in Accra.
The visiting team played with no fear as they matched up to Ghana in all departments of the game which saw them carry the day in a six-goals thriller.
Speaking after the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, McKinstry revealed his side had spotted signs of unrest among the hosts.
“We noticed that a few of the Black Stars players were unhappy with each other. So we knew there was disruption [in the team]…” the Northern Irish coach said.
Ghana led through an Ernest Nuamah penalty and a superb free-kick from Felix Afena-Gyan but Gambia fought back strongly before half-time, equalising via Mohamed Badamosi’s penalty and Omar Colley’s strike.
Eberima Colley scored twice in the second half to complete a remarkable turnaround and secure three vital points for the Scorpions.
The result leaves Ghana with back-to-back defeats in Group C under Carlos Queiroz with pressure looming for his resignation.
