Karela United came out tops in a spirited encounter against the holders of the Ghana Premier League, Kotoko at the CAM Park.

The ‘Pride and Passion’ were coming into this fixture with just a win 8 games and with the way things were shaping up in the league, they needed to avert their dwindling fortunes in the league with a positive result in today’s encounter.

With Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko at the helm of affairs for his game for the side, it was imperative for him to start right as he responded by fielding a lineup that got him over the line with all 3 maximum points at the expense of Kotoko.

Kotoko coach Seydou Zerbo made just a change to his weekend fixture against Kotoku Royals. He handed new boy, Rashid Nortey his first start of the season in place of Richmond Lamptey.

Both teams gave it their best shot in the first half but it was the visitors that had the most possession and created loads of chances in the game but due to some poor finishing they failed to hit the back of the net.

The defending champions had the upper hand in the first period of the match in terms of possession but failed to make it count in goals.

It wasn’t until the 60 th minute mark that, Karela were awarded a penalty kick, which was expertly converted by Attah Kumi for the first and only goal of the game.

Karela held their nerve in the final 30 minutes of the game to pick all the 3 points over Kotoko.

The win lifts them up to 13th on the league standings with 19 points, whiles Kotoko drop to 5th on the log.
