Hearts of Oak were left frustrated as they managed to share the spoils with Karela United in their anniversary game at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The home side had won two consecutive games, BibianiGoldStars and Kotoku Royals, and were looking to add Karela United to their pile of victims but it didn’t work as planned.
Coach Slavko Matic fielded a strong starting line-up that featured the likes of Gladson Awako,Afriyie Barnieh, Ibrahim Salifu Otanga, Addo Sowah, and others.
The Phobians started the early exchanges in on the front foot and it was least surprising to see, Ibrahim Salifu inch-perfect pass to Isaac Mensah, whose shot resulting shot missed the post by whiskers.
As the game wore on, it became cagy as both sides canceled each other tactically, Kobby Mensah’s side matched the home side on all levels, and very few chances were catered as a result.
The home fans got edgy and nervous as the game towed towards it’s end, a triple substitution of Isaac Mensah, Gladson Awako, and Gideon Asante for Obeng Jnr, Amankwah Baafi, Siedu Suraj failed to purposely impact the game in Hearts’ favor as the away side stood their grounds resolutely for a point.
This will the second year running that Karela United have managed to pick a point at the Accra Sports Stadium against the host.
Hearts of Oak will play away to Accra Lions, who famously scrapped a win away to Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour park.
