Hearts of Oak were made to dig deep into extra time to beat Obuasi-based club AshantiGold at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The two sides started the early exchanges of the duel with loads of promise, as the home side dictated the play for large parts of the game but failed to create clear goal-scoring opportunities.

The second half saw the away side take hold of the game with the likes of Barnieh, Mensah probing the goal area of the miners but for some excellent goalkeeping from K.Mensah to deny the Phobians.

The introduction of Salifu Ibrahim, Victor Aidoo did little to improve the fortunes of Hearts as they were denied on several occasions.

The match will end in a barren draw to progress to penalties after both set of sides failed to knick a goal past each other.

In the end, Hearts of Oak won 8 – 7 in the  penalty shootout.
