The Black Galaxies of Ghana took a giant leap in qualification as its doubleheader fixture against CHAN Nigeria at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium provided the right grounds for a feisty return leg in Nigeria.

The Ghanaian side started the match on the front foot as Karela United’s Augustine Randolph teed up Seidu Suraj but for ill lack, he failed to connect the home side’s first real attack of the game.

There were few chances in-between the game but the Nigerians were first to the 50/50 balls, pressing their opponents using strength, physique, and pace to their advantage which on a few occasions unsettled the Ghanaian defense.

The second half started with a lot of frantic paces, Mohammed Alhassan started off an attack through the middle which saw Morris Chukwu handle the ball in the penalty box only for referee, Issah Dery to whistle for a spot kick from which one of the country’s brightest talents, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh delivered a perfect penalty to send the home side one up and the fans in Cape Coast into ruptures.

An intricate passing between Razak Kasim and Korsah saw Jonah Attuqauye lay up David Abagna whose shot was only whiskers away from being the second goal for the Black Galaxies.

Coach Annie Walker effected a double substitution taking off, Gladson Awako, and Jonah Attuqauye for Agyenim Boateng and Umar Bashiru, who came on for the next 20 minutes to play their bits in the game..

A well-worked goal between Umar Bashiru, Korsah, and Abagna saw hot shot, Seidu Suraj pound on his earlier effort which Nigeria’s goalkeeper failed to keep out at the first time of asking.

The Black Galaxies will head into the return leg at the Moshood Abiola Stadium with a two goals advantage.
