The Black Queens of Ghana have declined to train following several unpaid bonuses ahead of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers against Egypt.
The Queens beat Egypt away from home in a thumping 3-0 fixture.
Goals from forwards Doris Boaduwaa, Mary Amponsah, and Grace Asantewaa were enough to wreak havoc in Egypt.
Following their bronze-medal campaign at the 2024 WAFCON in Morocco, each player is owed $9,500, which has been unpaid since the tournament concluded in July.
However, with the second leg looming on Tuesday, the team has taken a bold decision not to honor their second-leg game until their bonuses are paid.
Saharafootball.net has picked up reports that the Ghana Football Association president, Kurt Okraku, FIFPRO, and PFAG General Secretary Tony Baffoe have tried to resolve the matter but to no avail.
It remains to be seen if the Sports Ministry will move in swiftly to resolve the unpaid bonuses or jeopardize the country’s qualification hopes for the 2026 WAFCON, a pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.
