Thomas Partey pledges future to Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid midfielder, Thomas Partey has indirectly squashed reports linking him with a move away from La Liga’s third-best club this summer.

The last few transfers has seen the midfielder linked to a number of clubs on the European terrain but this season has seen English club Arsenal intensified efforts in recruiting the Ghanaian international into their fold having had two bids rejected already.

But Partey in a recent interview with the club’s media team affirmed his commitment in staying with Diego Simeone’s side beyond this season.

“I remember the first game I played, everybody was shouting and I wasn’t used to it.

From there, I said to myself, I have to continue playing well to attract more attention because I kept on hearing names like Fernando Torres, Gabi and Koke, the fans were always singing their names. I said one day I hope they will be able to sing my name.”

The holding midfielder whose side were recently eliminated from the Champions League on Thursday night at the hands of the German club RB Leipzig in the quarter-finals expressed his ambitions in winning more laurels with the side in the near future.

“I don’t see myself as a key player yet because I have a lot of important players ahead of me.”

“My dream is to be able to reach a higher level than them, to be able to archive something they have never achieved with this team. It is not easy but I am sure with hard work, everything will be Ok. he ended.

Interestingly, it’s been eight years since the side last won the league dating back to the 2012/2013 season, where they were crowned Champions ahead off of the two glamorous clubs in Spain Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The midfielder has chalked some enviable success with the side helping them win the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Super Cup.
