DECLINE OF POWER CLUBS
Since 2000, Hearts of Oak and Kotoko have won the Ghana Premier League seven apiece but in the last three years, they have been a dominant shift. The Western region clubs have played above their weight levels and made their home fans proud beyond measure. Medeama SC started the trend accumulating 56 points from 34 matches to clinch the title. Samareboi-based club FC Samartex 1996 won the GPL title in the 2023–24 season, 61 points from 34 matches.
As if that was not enough, Bibiani Gold Stars won their maiden GPL title in the 2024–25 season, finishing with 63 points from 34 matches. An enviable record of 18 wins, 9 draws, and 7 losses, securing a three-point cushion over second-placed Heart of Lion.

TECHNICAL STABILITY
Before GoldStars gained promotion to the league in 2021, the experienced Kobina Amissah led the charge from the wilderness to the promised land. His tenure was brief as he left in August 2021 before the GPL season started but he guided them through pre-season preparation.
The managerial gap led to the appointment of Michael Osei (RIP) (August 2021–December 2023). In his debut season, he finished 9th backed the second season with an impressive a 5th place finish but things took a nose dive in the 2023–24 season which culminated in his sacking to the appointment of Frimpong Manso who finished 11th that season.
Quite surprisingly, the experienced head surged through the stormy rains, battered weather, and long bus travels through the country to clinch the league, the club’s first-ever GPL title.

HOME DOMINANCE
It has been established over the years that if any club wants to win the league, it needs to make its home venue a fortress. Medeama SC did it at the Akoon/TnA Park, and Samartex SC perfected it by picking 48 points at Nsenkyire Sports Arena while GoldStars just came a point shy of Kotoko’s 41 points at home but that notwithstanding they went fourteen games unbeaten at home until they lost that record at home to Karela United through a Mohammed Asigre goal.
SQUAD REINFORCEMENT
After the club finished 11th, technically the squad underwent a host of changes which saw the departures of eleven players, Huzaf Ali, Adraman Yahaya, Samuel Amofa, Mawuli Wayo, Abedego Tetteh, Ibrahim Laar, George Owusu, Emmanuel Appau, Prince Owusu, Farouk Adams.
That didn’t deter the side’s scouting team from recruiting young, talented, energetic lads to take up roles at the club which paid off gracefully on the stat board at the end of the season. The inclusion of former Bofoakwa Tano goalkeeper Emmanuel Kobi, proved a master stroke as he earned the golden glove with 18 clean sheets. Bright Boakye Kyereh, Kelvin Oppong, Michael Osei, Philip Ofori, Samuel Kumi Attah, Alex Aso, Michael Nkoah, Charles Gyamfi, and Vincent Atinga played diverse roles in securing victory.
