Hearts of Oak head coach Samuel Boadu has attributed the team’s failure to mount a title defense of the Ghana Premier League title they won just last season to injuries.

According to the exuberant gaffer of the capital-based club, a host of the first team players were in and out of action with a number of injuries which had a telling effect on the structure and composition of his team for the entire league season that ended over the weekend across the various match venues.

The former league champions needed to appease their fans with a victory on the back of going 4 matches (Karela United, King Faisal, Eleven Wonders, Great Olympics) without a win as RTU worsen their plight by thrashing them by 1-4 at the Accra Sports Stadium to the disappointment of their fans.

In a post-match interview after the embarrassing defeat to RTU, Samuel Boadu highlighted the injuries hi steams faced as the major factor to their inability to stage a title defense.

“The injury problem, because lots of players in the first team got injuries, Salifu Ibrahim, Addo Sowah and Nurudeen Abdul Aziz.

“It got to a point Barnieh was not feeling well and traveled, but I think this is the team we had to depend on and that cost us,” Boadu said.

Hearts finished 6th on the log with 48 points, 4 points off the top 4 positions, and 19 of their bitter rivals, Kotoko.

Hearts of Oak will have another opportunity to end the season on a high as they play host to Bechem United in the final of the MTN FA Cup at Kumasi Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
