The former star defender would thus take over from Portuguese António Conceição. The decision was officially announced on Wednesday, February 23.

It has been the will of Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (Fecafoot) to appoint a home-based coach for that role. The latter, however, asked the executive committee of the body for an additional three days, to decide on the right candidate.

The emblematic former captain of the Indomitable Lions who has become the new coach of Cameroon has previously trained the national team under 23, which he led to the African Nations Championship in 2018.

The former central defender would replace the Portuguese António Conceição, who has handled the team since 2019, in this position.

The contract of this technician was renewed last September, but the mixed performance of the Cameroon team at the CAN, which finished third, sealed his fate.
