Police confirm arrest of Tiyumba Ladies coach Napari Suheru

The Ghana Police Service has officially confirmed the arrest of Napari Suheru, the coach of Tiyumba Ladies, on Monday, June 19, 2023. The arrest follows his assault on a referee during a Division 1B match in Tamale.



During the match, which took place over the weekend, the coach physically attacked the female referee, causing her several injuries.

On Saturday, June 17, 2023, the match had to be abandoned in the 38th minute due to a pitch invasion and the subsequent assault on the referee by the Tiyumba Ladies coach.

The offender is currently in police custody and will face legal consequences for his actions as he will be brought before the court. The police have initiated an investigation into the incident to gather more information.

As the police investigation unfolds, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has held a meeting with the Chairman of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Mr. Kurt Okraku Mante, and the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, Professor Peter Twumasi.

During the meeting, he emphasized the need for the GFA to inform the police in advance of all football matches in the lower leagues, similar to the practice in the premier league, so that appropriate security measures can be put in place.
