Malik Abubakar’s first-half strike was enough to help Karela United beat Kotoko in a spirited encounter at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

Both teams created varied chances in the game, but Malik Abubakar was on hand to poke in the opener.

Goalkeeper Daniel Afadzwu was on hand to repel several goal-bound chances from the visiting team, keeping them at bay and the scoreline in favor of the home team.

The Porcupine Warriors were reduced to ten men as Henry Ansu was shown a red card, leaving the visitors a man down as Karela continued to press for more goals.

The Pride and Passion boys probe severely for the cushioning goal through Felix Mortu and Sulley Kassim, but Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was in his peak element to maintain the lone goal deficit from the first half.

The result sends Karela United to sixth place on the league table with 38 points, while Kotoko drops to fifth and is now seven points behind the leaders.
