Hearts of Oak put themselves in a good position as they beat Basake Holy Stars at the AAK Sports Arena in Ampain on Sunday afternoon.

Before this game, Evans Adotey and his charges had lost all four consecutive games (Berekum Chelsea, Young Apostles, Swedru All Blacks, Hearts of Lions) and were looking to break the duck of the winless run using Hearts of Oak.

The host conceded a penalty on the stroke of halftime, which was expertly converted by Frank Abora Duku to give the Phobians the lead into the break.

Evergreen Hamza Issah asserted the visitors’ superiority in the game by scoring the second goal of the game on the half-hour mark.

Hearts maintained their dominance after the restart, and in the 59th minute, Hamza Issah doubled the advantage with a fine finish, continuing his impressive scoring form this season.

Captain Issah Yakubu stepped up to convert a penalty in the 68th minute for the host to offer them hope to pull the game back to parity, but the visitors had other ideas, clinging on to victory.

The win pushes the Phobians to 3rd on the log, while Holy Stars remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the Ghana Premier League.

Hearts of Oak will host Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, 8 November, 2025, while HolyStars will welcome GoldStars.
