Hearts of Lions dealt a serious blow to the title credentials of Kotoko as they beat them resoundingly by 3-1 at the Kpando Sports Stadium on Saturday.
Kotoko were looking to close the gap on table toppers, Medeama SC, who lost away to Nations FC at the Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Stadium.
The home side raced to a two-goal lead from Asante Seedorf and Fawzi Ali.
The second half saw the visitors up their game with several waves of attacks, which paid off as they were awarded a penalty, which was expertly converted by the departing captain, Samba O’Neil, to set the tone of the game.
However, Michael Ephson sealed the victory for the home team as he raced on to a pass from a teammate to plunge the ball beyond the reach of Guinean goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, 3-1.
The result leaves the Porcupine Warriors eight points behind Medeama.
Kotoko will lock horns with bitter rivals Hearts of Oak in the Super Clash two weeks from today.
Meanwhile, Hearts of Lions are 7th on the log and will play Berekum Chelsea in the next league encounter at the Golden City Park.
