Accra Lions delivered a sucker-punch on Kotoko in a thrilling fashion at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The host, struggling with the tides of the league, showcased their best performance yet in the league by beating the former Ghana Premier League by three unanswered goals from Jacob Awoute, Sokpoli Yao, and David Akintunde.

Both teams put their best personnel in front in lineups and tactics.

The hosts found themselves ahead in the 18th minute after Jacob Awoute reacted well to Ahmed Yousif’s shot, which cannoned off Fred Asare’s post for the opener.

Albert Amoah went close to finding the equalizer for his side three minutes later, but the ball screamed narrowly off the post.

Exciting midfielder,  Awoute dispossessed  Andrews Ntim off the ball in midfield by running half the pitch and squared a perfectly weighted pass to his teammate Yao Sokpoli, with the Togolese slotting home calmly.

Lions coach Rainer Kraft replaced Sokpoli with Akintunde, who repaid his coach’s confidence by scoring the third in the 73rd minute.

The win pushes Accra Lions to 14th on the log, while Kotoko have lost the top spot to GoldStars, who beat Bechem United for the first time in five attempts.
