Leicester City’s manager, Enzo Maresca, voices worries regarding Abdul Fatawu Issahaku’s participation in the AFCON.

Leicester City’s manager, Enzo Maresca, has expressed significant apprehension about the status of Ghanaian prodigy Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, as the team awaits clarity on his availability for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

While Kelechi Iheanacho and Wilfred Ndidi have received call-ups for Nigeria and Patson Daka for Zambia, the situation surrounding Issahaku remains up in the air.

Chris Hughton, the Ghanaian head coach, is set to unveil the final AFCON squad on Monday. Leicester City would face a considerable setback if Issahaku is named in Ghana’s roster for the AFCON tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.

Beyond the trio mentioned, defender Harry Soutar is also slated to represent Australia in the Asian Cup of Nations, happening concurrently in Qatar this month.

With the New Year’s Day match against Huddersfield approaching, Maresca remains uncertain about the participation of his African contingent, including Issahaku. Historically, AFCON-bound players typically feature in New Year’s Day fixtures before joining their national sides.

“We’re awaiting feedback from the respective federations. Our hope is to have them available for our upcoming match,” Maresca commented.

This season, Issahaku has showcased his prowess, tallying two goals and assisting seven times in 21 Championship appearances for Leicester.
