Kotoko returned to winning ways winning ways as they beat table toppers, Samartex at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The host side was on a seven-match winless streak and with things looking dire, the Interim Management Committee, technical team, playing staff, and other vested parties met with the Life Patron of the club, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II on how the club’s performance had declined since the resumption of the second round, charging them to do well in their subsequent games.

Coach Ogum Narteh named him a starting berth with a notable presence of Fred Asare, Eric Zeze, and Nicholas Bonsu was given an opportunity in the lineup against the Samreboi-based club.

The first half failed to produce any goal between the two sides.

The second half resumed with a much tenser intensity with both sides probing for the opener, it wasn’t until Emmanuel Kotei’s cross hit the hand of the opposing player.

Referee Gideon Vormawah adjudged it as a penalty which Enoch Morrison converted to hand the home side the breakthrough on the 61st-minute mark.

The win signifies an end to, the Porcupine Warriors, a wave of seventh matches without a win in the second-round campaign of the league.

For the away side, this loss brings an end to their six-game unbeaten run while still maintaining a five-point gap at the summit due to Nations FC’s capitulation away to Hearts of Lions at the Kpando Sports Stadium.

Kotoko will travel away to Medeama SC in the next league fixture and will be at home to Great Olympics
