    Ivory Coast eliminate Senegal to advance to quarterfinals of AFCON 2023



    Ivory Coast secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations by defeating reigning champions Senegal in a penalty shootout on Monday night in Yamoussoukro.

    Despite a challenging group stage, the host team staged a remarkable comeback, thrilling their home fans.

    Senegal took an early lead as Habib Diallo scored in the fourth minute from a cross by Sadio Mane.

    However, Ivory Coast fought back and leveled the score four minutes from the end of regular time through Franck Kessie’s penalty. With no further goals in extra time, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout.

    Franck Kessie, who had already found the net in the match, stepped up and successfully converted the decisive penalty for Ivory Coast, securing a dramatic victory.

    The final score was 1-1 after extra time, with Ivory Coast prevailing 4-3 in the penalty shootout.

    In the quarterfinals, Ivory Coast is set to face the winner of the match between Mali and Burkina Faso, scheduled for Tuesday in Korhogo. The upcoming clash promises an exciting encounter for football enthusiasts.
