The Black Queens of Ghana lost to England in an international friendly at St Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday.
A goal in each half from Lucia Kendall and Alessia Russo was enough for the Lionesses to upset the Queens at a fully packed stadium.
Both teams used the game to prepare and refine the finer tactical details ahead of their respective tournaments.
Lucia Kendall gave the host the lead inside six minutes following a lapse in concentration in defense.
They ended the first half with that solitary lead to their good.
The second half saw an improved performance from the Queens with a host of changes from coach Kim to freshen the squad.
England sealed the win with a last gasp penalty from Alessia Russo to make it 2–0.
Head coach Kim Björkegren will be very happy with the performances from her ladies particularly, goalkepper, Cynthia Konlan who made as many as seven crucial saves to deny the host.
The Black Queens will switch focus to preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled to take place in Morocco from 17 March to 3 April 2026.
