The Chief Executive Officer of the McDan Group of Companies, Dr. Daniel McKorley has strongly distanced himself from investing in the Ghana Premier League following “gambling” concerns.

Speaking on Asempa FC as to why he hasn’t taken the initiative of sponsoring the league, he remarked that the spate of “gambling” has been the beauty of the game hence his decision not to sponsor the league.

“I can sponsor the Ghana Premier League but the gambling is too much,”

“The match-fixing is collapsing our game. You will watch a game and how a goalkeeper will concede a goal is funny and it is because someone must win a bet.

“Football is a nice game but our players cannot play for years. It is about time we sanitize our game,” he added.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, announced betPawa as the headline sponsor of the Ghana Premier League.

Betpawa was set to invest $6 million over the three-year deal, with over $2 million already paid during their involvement of just over a year.

In a little over a year, the betting company abruptly decided against sponsoring the league as things stand the league is without a sponsor with barely a month to commence the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League.
