Ghana Premier League referee Franklin Akumatey has apologized to Asante Kotoko and their fans following the controversial penalty awarded in their game against Bibiani Goldstars.

Asante Kotoko were in front against Bibiani Goldstars before the referee awarded a penalty to Bibiani Goldstars after their own player handled the ball in the Kotoko box.

Franklin Akumatey has apologized, stating he thought a Kotoko player handled the ball in the box. He added that he would have rescinded his decision if the VAR was available.

“I am sorry, I have not been myself since that wrong decision,” Franklin said

“I am very sorry to all Kotoko people, it was a human error. I need help and wished I had VAR” he added.

Although the initial penalty was saved, Bibiani Goldstars scored from the rebound to restore parity in the game.
