The Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has announced that the decisive Premier League game between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko scheduled for Sunday, March 5, in Accra, will function as the 2023 President’s Cup.

The two clubs are billed to take on each other over the coming weekend in the second round of the ongoing betPawa Premier League 2022/23 season but after closed-door deliberations between the duo’s club hierarchy and other vested parties, they have both agreed to transmogrify their league fixture into a ceremonial fixture to commemorate Ghana’s independence day.

According to GHALCA, if the match concludes in a draw, a penalty shootout will decide the winner, who will receive a trophy, cash prize and medals likewise the losing finalist bar the crowning trophy.

It’s unclear why the two clubs have agreed to such a proposition by GHALCA but it seems the fixture congestion might have played a role in agreement which has riffled a few feathers in the media landscape.

A year ago, Hearts of Oak beat were crowned victors over Kotoko after beating them in the in the 2022 President’s Cup.
