Haruna Iddrisu calls on Sports Minister to fix the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium

Haruna Iddrisu calls on Sports Minister to address the condition of the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

Karela United owner Haruna Iddrisu has called upon the Minister for Youth and Sports to urgently address the deteriorating condition of the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.

The stadium’s current state has rendered it unsuitable for hosting Ghana Premier League matches, presenting significant challenges for clubs like Karela United.

Speaking in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu highlighted the difficulties faced by his club due to the lack of suitable stadiums for training and matches.

With an upcoming match against Asante Kotoko scheduled for Sunday, March 10, the need for immediate action is paramount.

Haruna Iddrisu pointed out the impact of the stadium’s condition on the upcoming fixture, noting that Asante Kotoko has already raised objections after inspecting the alternative venue in Nalerigu.

He urged Minister Mustapha Ussif to prioritize the rehabilitation of the Tamale Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

“I’m struggling now to even get a stadium for training and even for my matches. Minister, pay particular attention to the Tamale Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. It is a site that is in a deteriorated position,” appealed Haruna Iddrisu.

This plea comes at a crucial time for Karela United, who recently announced the Naa Sheriga Sports Complex as their new home ground for the second round of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League. Currently, Karela United are 15th on the table and are hoping for a positive result against Kotoko.
