GPL Wk6 Report: Hearts, Kotoko, Bechem win as WAFA, Dreams lose

Bechem United made their superiority count over former league leaders, Karela United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park. Both sides were amongst three teams yet to lose in five games honored so far in the league. Goals from Steven Owusu, Listowel Amankonah, and a Diawusie Taylor consolation in between helped the Hunters to their third win of the season.

Legon Cities will be wondering what hit them on Friday night against Ebusua Dwarfs as they succumbed to a 1-2 loss at their own backyard, Accra Sports Stadium. The Royals were on a rampant spending spree over the summer transfer but the impact of their transfer dealings have not been positively felt as yet. The Crabs on the other will be smiling back to Cape Coast with joy in their hearts, as they sit 10th on the log with 7 points.

GPL Match Preview and Prediction: Great Olympics set to slay WAFA

King Faisal failed to recover from their midweek outstanding heavy battering to AshGold losing to Accra Hearts of Oak in a closely knitted affair at the Ohene Ameyaw Park. A last gap Umar Manaf penalty condemned the Insha Allah boys to yet another defeat in the Ghana Premier League; their fourth of the season.

A Benjamin Tweneboah penalty ensured that the home side, Elmina Sharks were victors over Inter Allies at the Ndoum Stadium. The Sharks responded positively to their heavy drubbing at the hands of touted favorites of the league, Ashgold when they faced off with the Capelli Boys. Coach Henrik Lehm and his boys will need to regroup when the festive period is over considering they face a relegation dogfight.

The topliner of the week happened at the Dawu Park between Dreams FC and Asante Kotoko. On the back of losing to Hearts of Oak, they were looking to get improved performance over Kotoko, who had to do away with their head coach, Maxwell Konadu, after a string of losses, draws coupled with inconsistent performances. In the end, an Ibrahim Imoro goal in the first helped the visitors clinch three vital points pushing them to 7th sinking the ‘Still Believe’ boys to 15th.

In other games, Medeama SC and Liberty settled for a point each at T&A park, a Gladson Awako goal was enough for Great Olympics, who recorded their second successive victory in less than a week boasting them up to 3rd with 10 points, Coach Ignatius Osei-Fosu failed to spur his boys on against Obuasi based AshantiGold as they both shared the spoils. Aduana Stars were held by Berekum Chelsea.
