GPL Match Report: Asante Kotoko cruise past Karela United

Karela United were putten in their place by record holders of the Ghana Premier League, Kumasi Asante Kotoko in week 13 of the crunch encounter between the pair at the CAM park.

The home side were enjoying a roller-coaster ride in the league unlike a season past, where they were relegation candidates but for the outbreak of coronavirus, which decimated lives globally and brought major economies to a grand halt their blushes were spurred.

The Nzema – Aiyinase based side started the game on the front foot but their efforts were thwarted by the impressive Razak Abalora in post for Kotoko.

The away side got their noses in front through full-back, Imoro Ibrahim, who smartly got on to pass from a teammate to smash it past the Karela goalkeeper in post to hand his side the lead for the first half.

Evans Adotey will make some tactical switches in the second half but all proved vague, as the free-scoring Kwame Opoku, who has 7 in 13 games added his side’s second of the game.

This loss marres Karela United’s six unbeaten home streak in the Ghana Premier League 2020-21 season.

Kotoko are up to 1st on the log whiles Karela will have to assume the current position of 3rd in the ongoing Ghana Premier League, which is getting keener and interesting as the weeks roll past.
