Ghanaian clubs cry on Government for help as they face bankruptcy

The Ghana Premier League was recently suspended as the Government and other worldwide partners try to find ways of curbing the spread of the global pandemic, COVID-19.

The President issued a directive to suspend major activities in the country of which football was put on hold for the time being.

These recent developments in the country have taken a big toll on the football landscape, as most club owners are seeking a financial bailout from the Government in efforts to solve their growing financial situations.

This has led to clubs cutting down on the wages, bonuses of players, coaches, technical staff as well as other auxiliary staff that work with the clubs.

The clubs are calling for immediate relief in the form of direct aid and monetary support.

Clubs have lost their revenue streams as major stakeholders, sponsors have been badly hit by the pandemic, fans are have been banned from the stadium from watching football in efforts to minimize the widespread of the virus.

It remains to be seen if the Government will offer some assistance to the clubs moving forward as it battles against time to mitigate the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
