Ghana has officially secured the rights to host the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking a significant milestone for the nation’s youth football development.
The announcement was made on Sunday, April 26, 2026, by Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku via a post on his official Facebook page.
This will be the first time Ghana hosts the prestigious youth tournament in nearly three decades — the last occasion was in 1999, when the competition (then known as the African Youth Championship) was staged on home soil and the Black Satellites emerged as champions.
The Black Satellites hold the enviable record of four times: 1993, 1999, 2009, and 2021, and will look to win the coveted youth trophy next year, 2027.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will unveil the dates and fixtures in the course of the year.
