Ghana Premier League: Match Week Seven Preview

Slowly, the big boys are showing what it means to be at the top, as they prey on the lower sides in the Ghana Premier League 2019 /20 season.

Karela United will welcome Legon Cities to their home venue, Akoon Community Park this weekend. Both sides are finding life in the league tougher than expected, particularly Karela, who enjoyed such a good season in the N.C Special Competition prior to the start of the league. Both setups come into this duel having played just one match with Karela United running away with all the maximum 3 points by a goal to nil.

To the Ndoum Stadium, Elmina Sharks in recent times pipped Eleven Wonders by a goal to nil. This win will spur their confidence in knowing that they have beaten them before. The away side are one of three sides languishing at the bottom of the table and will look to get an improved result when they play Elmina Sharks.

At the Accra Sports Stadium, Accra Great Olympics will play host to Sogakope based, WAFA. These two teams have played four (4) times, each winning one (1) of the encounters with two (2) ending in draws. The home side may have gotten results going their way in recent times but they are still inches closer to the drop zone whiles WAFA are currently mid-table looking to push up towards a top-four berth.

Dorma based, Aduana Stars will clash with one of several touted winners of the Ghana Premier league, Medeama S.C at the Nana Agyemang Badu Sports Stadium, this weekend. This ground is mostly a ‘death trap’ for most teams who have fallen face flat any time they visit this venue. Medeama, will be one of several clubs hoping to break the ‘‘hoodoo’ ’when they travel away to Aduana Stars. These sides have met seventeen (17) times, Aduana (7) Medeama (6) and four (4) by way of draws.

In other matches, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, fresh from beating one of their fiercest rivals: Accra Hearts of Oak, this weekend, will play host to Liberty Professionals, whom they seem to have an edge over in many duels, winning nine (9) of the last fifteen (15) matches with the away side only winning four (4) in the process with the remaining ending in a draw (2).

Ashantigold 1-1 Galaxy Sports: The miners held in friendly game

Ashanti Gold will need to start sorting their form out as recent results have not gone their way, losing away to Medeama was a bitter pill to swallow but playing at their favorite Obuasi Ley Clay stadium will provide some respite as they look to beat embattled Ebusua Dwarfs. The Central Region based club will be buoyed by their first win of the season beating Dreams F.C at home in the ongoing Ghana Premier League campaign. The pair come into this clash, with thirteen (13) matches between them, Ashanti Gold (5), Dwarfs (5) and three (3) draws.

Bechem United will host fellow city rivals Berekum Chelsea at the Nana Gyeabour Park this weekend. The home side are badly bruised after losing to Legon Cities in Accra, whiles Berekum Chelsea only had to share the spoils with fellow rivals, Aduana Stars.  These two sides have met thirteen (13) times with the away side, Berekum Chelsea winning five (5), Bechem United (4) and four (4) draws.

GHPL WK5 Review: Aduana, Kotoko, Chelsea win big as Hearts humble Liberty.

Dawu based, Dreams F.C will come face – to –face with a wounded Accra Hearts of Oak, who lost their last match to fiercest rivals Kumasi Asante Kotoko at home. The home side will be wondering what hit them when they lost away to struggling Ebusua Dwarfs. These sides are familiar foes having played five (5) times with the away side, Hearts winning three (3), Dreams F.C (2) of the duels in the past seasons.

Down to the nation’s capital, Tema based, Inter Allies are one of the sides equally struggling in the ongoing league campaign, they play host to Alhaji Karim Grunsah’s King Faisal, who are still pitching pieces together to make things work. Coach Anthony Commey will have to devise better strategies to help his boys grind out results or else their fortunes in the league will dwindle faster than expected. Both have met twice in the past seasons, with each winning one of the encounters.
