The Black Stars of Ghana beat Comoros in the final group game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The win secured the Black Stars qualification to the World, their fifth in six outings.

Before the game, the host country had beaten Central Africa Republic by 5-0 in Morocco and needed to solidify their qualification with a win or draw in Accra against Comoros who are familiar foes having beaten their guest by a solitary goal in the opening game of the qualifiers

Otto named a lineup largely with an idea of playing his beloved 3 back system deploying Djiku, Salisu and Jonas Adjetey in that role, Ebenezer Annan and the returning Alidu Seidu as wingbacks with Sibo complimenting Thomas Partey.

Kudus, Semenyo and Jordan formed the fulcrum of attack for the home side.

Comoros emerged with first real attack of the game on the 3rd minute with Faiz Selmani’s header missing the post by a whisker

The Black Stars controlled a large chunk of possession in the first half with few penetrative passes to the unsettle the defense of the visiting side.

Ghana’s first shot on target was on 33rd minute – Semenyo

Three minutes later, Jordan maneuvered his way through the Comoros defense but his end pass skimmed across the goal post with no teammate to connect to his cross.

The first half ended goalless with many Ghanaian fans left with so much disappointment.

The second half saw the team play with a little bit of energy which saw Ghana’s poster boy Mohammed Kudus opened the scoring with the simplest of touches from a Partey cross two minutes after recess to set the whole stadium ablaze with chants “USA, USA” signifying the team’s qualification to the competition billed for next year.

The game produce little to no action in terms of attack as there were substitution effected at some portions of the game, Sibo, Semenyo and Kudus stepping out for Yirenkyi, Paintsil and Oppong Peprah.

The home team held on to their slender lead to secure qualification in front of their expectant home fans in Accra.
