Former Chelsea defender, Ryan Bertrand has thrown his weight behind, Chris Hughton amidst the Black Stars’ poor run of form in the two international friendly games

BlackStars played North American opponents, Mexico and the USA, in two separate international friendly games but failed to record a single win in either match, conceding six goals.

Following the team’s poor showing in the international friendly duels has heightened pressure on Chris Hughton and the team.

But ex-England international, Ryan Bertrand, who is a keen admirer of Hughton has thrown his support behind the coach.

“International or domestic football, everything can happen. There is some stage you cannot be in the best form and end up doing well and sometimes you can be in great form and end up under-achieving,” he told 3 Sports.

“I think the last two tests in the USA and Mexico were good tests, different style of football and different opposition and I feel they are in great hands under Chris Hughton and I am sure by the time the tournament comes up, they would be ready,” he added.

Bertrand touched down in Ghana on Wednesday, following an invitation from Koppan Sports to monitor a series of sporting-related activities in the country.

The Black Stars will play Madagascar and Comoros in a World Cup qualifying series in November 2023 with the AFCON 2024 tournament lurking around in January.
