Former captain of the Black Stars, Stephen Appiah is reported to be interested in contesting as a Member of Parliament in the upcoming elections slated for December 2024.

The former skipper is said to contest as an Independent Candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.

Appiah intention to run as an independent candidate for the upcoming polls was revealed by a family friend, Fiifi Tackie.

Appiah historically led the BlackStars to their first World Cup outing in 2006, which saw Ghana play against top sides such as Italy, Czech, and USA but fell to Brazil in the round of 16.

He then led Ghana to its second World Cup in South Africa, which saw the country rise through the ranks until they were ousted by Uruguay in the quarter-finals on the brink of a first semi-finals berth for an African country.

Appiah will have incumbent Lydia Seyram Alhassan of the NPP and former actor, John Dumelo of the National Democratic Congress to wrestle for the seat in December polls.
