FIVE things we learnt from Ghana Black Stars victory against Zimbabwe

Ghana Blackstars engaged Zimbabwe in the first of two matches at the Cape Coast Sports and a return leg back in Harare, Zimbabwe in the ongoing World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign.

I want to start from the backline, Wallocot making his first bow in the post didn’t disappoint when called upon. J.Mensah and Djiku(bar his silly tackle which led to the equalizer) solidified the base of the defence while the full-backs Amartey(caught napping on a few occasions) and Baba Rahman with an assist to Ghana’s third through Ayew was relentless with surging runs and defended resolutely.

In the heart of midfield, Partey brought an assured level of fluidity and solidity to which the team thrived upon to build and control the game, Kudus was lively on the day with the first goal even though he squandered loads of chances on the day.

The attacking force of Fatau, Ayew, Kamal and Jordan put in a solid pitch in attack with some swift and decisive one-two’s which unsettled the warriors who gave a good account of themselves playing away from home.

If there’s anything, Milo can rely on its bench, making a bold call to take off Jordan who didn’t particularly enjoy his game for Benjamin Tetteh showing a glimpse of his talent as well as Baba Iddrisu coming on to compliment Partey, who got Ghana’s important second goal after a dazzling take on of two players to shot past the goalkeeper in midfield in the dying embers of the game.

The enterprising plus to this side was how swift and energetic the lads(Fatau, Kamal, Kudus) moved the ball in between the pocket of spaces on the field. Good times for Ghana football.

Clearly, Milo has a fulcrum on which he can build a formidable setup should he get the full complement of his squad at his disposal.

Ghana will have an arduous task against Zimbabwe in Harare with the sort of display they put up in today’s fixture if they are to keep their World Cup 2022 hopes alive.
