Five things we learnt from Black Stars’ victory over Zimbabwe in Harare

The Senior National team, Blackstars did the needful by dispatching the Warriors of Zimbabwe in Harare this afternoon to keep their World Cup hopes alive.

I had the opportunity of watching the match as such I penned a few observations that would need looking into if this team so desires to qualify after missing out on Russia 2018.

To start with, the current Blackstars is blessed with many talents from all walks of life. The good thing is that any of the bunch could have a fair shot at playing time with Milo in charge being noted for giving young lads an opportunity to freely express themselves on the pitch.

New Ghana Goalkeeper, Joe Walocott should know the country he’s playing for, Ghana, in this afternoon’s fixture, he made some elementary mistakes that could have gone against the team across the run of play, something the technical department should be concerned about moving forward in the ongoing qualifiers for Qatar 2022.

Also worth noting is that the inclusion of Baba Iddrissu in midfield gave Thomas Partey the creative freedom to express himself on the day which allowed him to score the only goal of the match.

One glaring problem that needs immediate fixing is Ghana’s right full-back position, in the absence of automatic first-choice player, Andy Yiadom, one would have thought that Dreams FC’s Philemon Baffour would have gotten the nod but Milo deployed Daniel Amartey, in a makeshift position from which he struggled to put in an arousing performance defensively and attacking.

To cap it off, Milo’s second stint with the Blackstars has seems to be going according to plan, he has overseen two matches a double-header against Zimbabwe, which has ended in victories, scoring four and conceding one(a needles penalty) in both games, his bravery to effect changes where needed is something his two predecessors (Kwesi Appiah & C.K Akunnor) fell short of delivering. He has gained widespread plaudits for this act as a result.

Evidently, the “operation 12 points ” is still not far from being actualized with a crucial away match against Ethiopia and a tricky one to South Africa on the cards in the coming months means the Blackstars would have to throw everything if they are to qualify for Qatar 2022.
