So after the numerous back and forth as to who is likely to take over the mantle from the departed C.K Akunnor, it’s looking inevitable that an old gem, Milovan Rajevac is in line to be confirmed as coach of the Ghana Blackstars in the coming days. see who the cat dragged in

When C.K Akunnor was sacked from his role as Blackstars coach, there were lots of names, Herve Renard, George Boateng, Otto Addo, Didi Dramani, Karim Zito, Ibrahim Tanko, and others linked to the vacant coaching position.

But after a long stretch of assessment and evaluation, the three-member committee of the GFA tasked to look for a new coach within a 72-hour period settled on Coach Milo, who they perceive had unfinished business with the country after he left his two-year contract in 2010 to take up the Saudi job.

I know, you know Milo for various reasons, his tactical astuteness, compatibility, his low concession rate at goals, infamous ‘one goal’ project, ability to get the boys to give off their best was something that needed plaudits.

There were lots of local media reports confirming Ghana’s interest in bringing back the Serb, who developed close ties with the country and particularly football in his two-year stay,2008 -2010 and it made sense to say the least.

This was someone, who showed, he had what it took to be at the forefront of the war, in 2010, he almost helped Ghana achieved two grand successes; a semi-final place in the World Cup in South Africa but for a certain Suarez, as well as losing an AFCON final in the dying embers of the game to Egypt.

If the gods of football, luck were to tilt their smile in Ghana’s favor it would have been a mountainous feat for the country in its football history and beyond.

He is expected to take charge of Ghana’s doubleheader against Zimbabwe in a World Cup qualifier in October with the Blackstars picking 3 points from a possible 6 in their two games against Ethiopia and South Africa.

The 67-year old trainer has an arduous task to churn the best of the current crop of players as the country eyes an end to its over 3 decades without the AFCON silverware and a World Cup qualification to Qatar 2022 after missing out in Russia.

The Serb comes in at a time the Blackstars have lost their identity and need a leader that will stamp his authority on the lawlessness in camp. He is known for his strong disciplinary record which will instill a sense of responsibility and accountability into the players to give off their best.

He won’t have it easy, his predecessor complained off not getting the free hand to fully express himself in selection and tactics, the question is why would you give a job to someone you don’t fully trust his abilities or skills set, I hope the old dog doesn’t get such treatment from the top hierarchy before he starts barking.
